A recent study carried out by Orange UK to promote their new recycling scheme, revealed that in Britain millions of phones are just lying around not being used.

These phones lying in Britain’s draws and cupboards are estimated to have total value that exceeds £2.7 billion! Despite this, one-in-three people are unaware that they could make money by recycling their old mobile phones.

It’s a real waste too, especially when you consider nearly everybody in the UK has an old mobile phone they could recycle. There are now more mobile phones in the UK than there are people, and each one required lots of energy to make.

Also, mobiles are made from valuable resources including oil, silver, copper and even gold. In fact mobile phones actually have the highest concentration of gold of any object on earth – even more than the ore it originates from. It is ridiculous that we are not more readily recycling mobile phones when you take into account how rich they are in resources that we depend on heavily but only have a finite amount of.

So if you have an old phone lying around the use collecting dust and serving no purpose don’t just leave it there – recycle it now and you may just make a little extra cash! Or, if it’s an Android phone, feel free to send it to me as I am currently without one as you know! My poor little Nexus One!
