Action Launcher has always been about adding functionality to your device and the latest update has made this even better. In Action Launcher 3.5 you can now add shortcuts and icons into the Google Search bar. These can be shortcuts to contacts, apps, or anything you want outside of the presets. On my setup clicking the music icon brings up all of my audio apps, whereas clicking the contacts icon it shows my frequent contacts. There are a few other bug fixes included but we’ll let you read those in the changelog.

Despite looking quite simple this is something Chris Lacy, the developer, says this was a lot harder to get working than you’d think. He says he’s happy with how it turned out and so am I. The interface for adding new icons and shortcuts is very easy to use and looks good too. I’ve owned Action Launcher for a while, but I’ve always ended up back on Nova or Google Now. But this is something that I find quite intriguing, so I’m going to give it another shot.

If you’re using Action Launcher already then go ahead and check for the update. If you aren’t already a user and want to see this in action, be sure to check out the video below.
