It lives! Only a few months ago we were seeing the very first prototypes of Project Ara (Google’s modular devices from ATAP) but for the first time ever we have seen one working in public!
Unfortunately in this demo it froze a lot past booting up so it the demo wasn’t the biggest success – there are obviously still a lot of bugs to iron out. However, it shows how rapidly Ara is developing and we heard today during the live event that Android L will be module-aware this autumn which is another massive step!
To make matters more exciting, as we mentioned earlier on social media, Google is offering a $100,000 prize and free tickets to the next Ara event (this autumn) for anyone who manages to create a module that will be useful in day-to-day life and does something “a phone has never done before”.
We think that Ara could be one of Google’s most exciting projects and look forward to see the modules people develop and would certainly like to have a modular device in the future.
