Top mobile games developer Gameloft has been known to make some of the best games available on the Android platform. Unfortunately most of its games have been only available for purchase via its own store and not in the Android market.

However, recently they have made their first entrance to the Android market in a long while with the release of their new game “Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus”. Hopefully this is something that will become the norm in the future as it would certainly be good news for Android gaming.

It makes sense that Gameloft would want to reconsider their current sales model as having their apps in the official Android market again would almost definitely result in much larger game sales. Also with the upcoming changes to the Android Market they are increasingly likely to upload their games there as many of their original reasons for not doing so will cease to exist.

Obviously they are testing the water here with this new release and so their future in the Android market could depend largely (at least for the next year or so) on the success of this game in the market. In order to be convinced to put other games in the market Gameloft will need to see that the Android market can make them more profit than their own store despite the revenue taken by Google from the game sales. To make sure that this is the case I encourage you all to go and buy this game for the sake of convincing another top game developer to use the Android market.

Should they decide to use the Android market it will help improve the Android gaming experience and thus increase Android popularity. If sales with this app are successful then as soon as the new market is released it’s quite probable that more Gameloft titles will begin trickling into the market.
