Amazon’s Android-based FireTV has been available since early April in the US but until now has not been available elsewhere.
If you are a user of Amazon services, in particular Amazon Prime, then this little TV box might actually be a pretty solid choice right now. We prefer Android TV as a platform but that is not currently available to consumers as it is due for release later this year with Android L.
The FireTV box actually packs some punch too, it is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC and sports 2GB of RAM plus it has optical audio out, MIMO WiFi, and 8GB of storage. The small storage is a little bit of a shame though because that’s not a lot of room for games or local media.
Anyhow, for just £79 here in the UK and €99 in Germany there’s not much to complain about!
